CoVid-19 Pandemic Management

Enabling early-warning and targeted interventions through satellite data fused with health and business datasets.

A Geospatial Command and Control application was developed for a State Govt. in India, to support pandemic management during the COVID-19 lockdown. The platform integrated multi-source data into real-time spatial analytics and dashboards, enabling continuous monitoring of disease spread, resource availability, and impact indicators to inform timely, data-driven decision-making.

CoVid-19 Pandemic Management

In March 2020, as the CoVid-19 lockdown was set in place in India, the State govt. of Haryana approached organizations and people with GIS knowhow to establish a Geospatial Command & Control Center for Pandemic Management. The purpose of this Center was to continually monitor and inform the decision-makers on different aspects of pandemic & its impact.

● All the data coming in from 22 districts of the state was converted to spatial data at the source itself, by either geolocation or by attributing it to an administrative entity such as gram panchayat, block, tehsil or district.

● Every output was a spatial one, i.e. a Map on a geographic base map for spatial context. The idea was to decongest the systems of multiple excels, datasets that were proving to be inefficient.

● A data pipeline was eventually created to make the data GIS-friendly at the source itself.

● All the frontline Govt. departments were briefed on this geospatial approach and their views were taken to make fine adjustments to the way data was eventually presented by the dashboard.

● Customizations were made to the dashboard as the pandemic progressed and lockdowns were lifted.

● Quick, data-driven insights delivered to the CM office for a statewide view of the emerging situation and enabling decision-making.

● Haryana emerged as one the least impacted state by CoVid-19. The state was also lauded by MoHFW and the PMO for many of their digital & data-driven initiatives.

● The effort was recognized by MIT, USA as one of the technological solutions to address the pandemic and its aftermath, at the Startup Challenge MIT Solve 2020.
